Our Story

Our name comes from the Hawaiian word for ‘creative imagination’.

It all began on the Big Island. After several years of running a full service business advising firm in Hilo, Makakū founder Melvin Jadulang teamed up with web designer Cody Chapin. With a creative web specialist now on board, Melvin got an idea—”Why not create an agency that focuses on brilliant branding and web presence development for Hawaii’s unique market? That way local companies won’t have to pay for expensive advertising and marketing.” Rather than spending thousands in media buys, what if Hawaii’s organizations were so well branded that the marketing costs were reduced significantly? In other words, the branding and presence would speak for itself. The result was Makakū, LLC.

Our name comes from the Hawaiian word for “creative imagination”.  We believe the creative power of imagination has an important role in the achievement of success in any field. Imagination ignites passion. It stimulates creativity and innovation. Some of the most influential and innovative creations have come from the simple act of imagining something bigger, better, or more beautiful. Without this creative power, we may never have had the internet, smartphones, and other incredible technology we rely on every day. Imagination is essential to the expansion and advancement of our world and we think it’s a great metaphor for what we do.

We work with each client to develop cohesive branding and presence that supports and highlights your strengths and capabilities. It’s our belief that you hold the vision and that our job is to create a company image that best reflects that vision as well as your mission.
